Monsters vs Gigablox Review

Hot Rise Games has clearly allowed themselves to be inspired by the classic Midway and Warner Bros arcade game, Rampage, which was first released in 1986. Both games are all about giant monsters destroying buildings, and even whole cities in this release. Monsters vs Gigablox is audiovisually impressive for sure, but somewhat lacking in the feature and math model department.

You get to meet a king kong-inspired giant ape called Kongo King, as well his monster “buddies” Lord Zar (lizard), Spartan Fighter V (transformer robot), Great Old One (alien), Object 51 (unknown) and Pyroana (volcano monster). These are all capable of mass destruction in case you had any doubt, and you get Gigablox in all stages of the game. The bonus round comes with a monster chosen to be wild, and the max win is 3,116x your stake.

Monsters vs Gigablox Slot Features

The premium symbols, consisting of different monsters, pay between 2 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins. Kongo King is the top-tier symbol, and golden crown Wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete wins. Wilds hold no value of their own however, and Gigablox symbols in sizes up to 6x6 appear on each spin.

Both wilds and scatters can land in giga sizes in the base game, and all gigablox count as 1x1 symbols.

You need at least 5 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and you get 4 free spins plus 1 FS on top of that per triggering scatter. This amounts to 9 to 40 free spins in total, and a monster symbol is chosen to become the Rampaging Monster based on how many instances are present on the triggering spin.

The Rampaging Monster appears in golden form, and serves as a wild symbol during the whole bonus round. Pure Monster Wild wins are boosted by an x2 multiplier, and you can expect larger Gigablox on average during the feature. Also, only premium monster symbols will appear as Gigablox in the bonus round.

Non-UK players, and anyone living in an eligible jurisdiction, can buy the feature for 75x the stake. This awards 9 to 30 free spins, and the RTP increases to a more decent 96.27 %.

Review Summary

First of all, we think Monsters vs Gigablox is a powerful name for a game, and in that regard it’s a bit of a shame that the math model doesn’t quite live up to the hype. It’s natural to expect a bit more than a 3,116x win cap in a grand production like this, and 10,000x would’ve been more like it. That being said, at least the win cap seems realistic, and people who love Godzilla or King King movies should feel right at home.

The audiovisual presentation is impressive, and we like the way the whole grid trembles when the Gigablox crash down. Some extra features in the base game would’ve gone a long way though, and the same goes for the bonus round. The golden monster wild is decent, but being able to upgrade more symbols would’ve been a nice touch. Overall, this is a fun and decent Gigablox installment, and a certain crowd will probably love it.
