Kings Court Gem Splash Review
When it comes to jackpot series like Playtech’s already established Fire Blaze saga, and the emerging Gem Splash franchise, you either like the concept or you don’t. Series like this are usually spawned by an initial hit game, and most of the time the follow-up titles fail to dethrone it. We hardly think Kings Court: Gem Splash will come close to the original Rainbows Gift: Gem Splash in popularity, but we have been wrong before.
The medieval theme comes across as boring and mediocre, and the similarity to the previous installment, Marilyn Monroe: Gem Splash, is glaring. Both games feature mega Gem Drop symbols up to 4x4, but there is no sex bomb to light up the reels with her iconic smile in this release. We weren’t too hot for the Gem Splash series to begin with, and Kings Court has hardly convinced us to jump on the bandwagon.

Per usual in this series, the Gem Splash feature is central to the action. Special Gem Drop symbols can land on top of the regular symbols, and they move downwards 1 step per following spin. Each Gem Drop comes with a cash prize between 1x and 100x, and you win the cash prize if the Gem Drop lands, or moves, on top of a Gem Splash symbol.

You trigger the Bonus Round when you land 3, 4 or 5 golden shield scatters anywhere in sight.
You will first land a scatter win of 1x, 10x or 50x your stake, respectively, and then you’ll be granted 6 free spins. Gem Drops present from the triggering spin will be removed. You can land new Gem Drops during the bonus round however, and they can land in the standard 1x1 size, or in colossal versions of 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 in size. The colossal Gem Drop symbols will award you their respective cash prizes for each Gem Splash symbol they cover. However, the oversized Gem Drop symbols come with reduced cash prizes between 3x and 20x.
To further help you out with the Gem Splash wins, these symbols will land in stacks on all 5 reels. This means that each Gem Drop symbol you land can potentially milk a lot of Gem Splash cash prizes on their way down the reels.
You get 6 extra free spins when you land 3+ scatters on the same spin, and there is no cap on the retriggers you can get this way.The Gem Splash Jackpot feature can trigger at any time. You will then see a large gemstone move around the reels until you win a cash prize worth 10, 15, 20, 30, 50 or 100 times your stake, or 1 of the 3 progressive jackpots. These are the Minor, Major and Grand jackpots, and their respective values are on display above the reels. Here’s what you can expect:
- Minor Jackpot drops within £500.
- Major Jackpot drops within £3,000.
- Grand Jackpot has no upper limit, and has been known to go as high as £772,000.
The 200 Spins Kings Court: Gem Splash Experience
We have to admit that we weren’t really huge fans of the 2 previous installments in Playtech’s Gem Splash series, but we always try to keep an open mind when testing new slots. We had an okay time playing Kings Court: Gem Splash, and per usual, we’ve put together a brief and edited highlights video you can check out below.
Review Summary
Playtech has several of these jackpot series going, where everything is more or less the same in each installment, except for bonus round variations. Kings Court: Gem Splash is extremely similar to the previous installment, namely Marilyn Monroe: Gem Splash. The Gem Splash prize wins is still the name of the game, even literally, and the random jackpots are the same also.
The only real difference except for the theme, is the fact that you can now land Gem Splash symbols in stacks, whereas Marilyn Monroe offers up to 4x4 Gem Drop symbols that increase in value as they move down the reels. Fans of the series might enjoy the fresh meat for a while, but we still prefer the original Irish Luck-themed title that comes with expanding reels in the bonus round.
Pros
- Gem Splash prizes up to 100x
- Bonus round w/ up to 4x4 Gem Drop symbols
- Gem Splash symbols land in stacks during free spins
- Randomly triggered jackpot feature
Cons
- Very similar to the previous installment
